6 Things to Say Yes To - Starting Today

Feeling like you're in a rut?   One that seems long and never ending?  Well, then it's time for you to take charge.   Here are 6 things to say yes to - starting today:
  1. GATHERING NEW PEOPLE

Grow your circle of acquaintances and friends.  Look in places that you don't normally think of to find them. Check out your local farmers market.  Volunteer on causes that are meaningful to you; you’re bound to meet people who share your interest.  Engage people who are different from you and you're likely to have more interesting conversations.
  1. STAYING IN BED ALL DAY

This is one of my favorite newly learned things.  Lounging in bed, sleeping, resting, reading should be on the top of your list to do frequently.  Prepare for it. Make sure the bed is laid with fresh linens, pillows are fluffed and the thermostat is comfortably set.  Have beverages and reading material handy. Stream your favorite playlists. Relax and dive in! P.S. If you're always in bed this isn't for you - get out of it. 😀
  1. GOING TO THE MOVIES ALONE

Go see that blockbuster movie.  Or better yet, go see that movie you're dying to see, but no one else does because it's subtitled.  Buy your favorite junk food and settle down all by yourself.  Enjoy the movie and yourself.
  1. STARTING THE DAY ANEW

If you normally hit the snooze button before rising, try getting up the first time the alarm goes off.  Use the time to meditate, pray, or walk outside and listen to early morning sounds.  Think of other ways those extra minutes could set you up for a wonderful day.
  1. WATCHING LATE NIGHT SKY

Why wait for a lunar eclipse or super moon to watch the night sky?  Instead, do a little star gazing on a regular basis.  Beyond the bright city lights, the stars, constellations and meteors beg to be seen with your naked eye.  Use a telescope or pair of high-powered binoculars to see even more details.  Spread a blanket on the grass or the roof and enjoy sky watching late at night.  It can be a romantic evening or fun family time.  Honestly, I’m selfish and prefer to gaze at the sky all by myself.
  1. DOING THAT THING YOU WANT TO DO BUT HAVEN’T

  • Write that song
  • Paint that picture
  • Start that business
  • Learn to play an instrument
  • Be a ninja warrior
  • Get a shelter pet
  • Be your authentic self
Bonus item for getting out of a mental ditch: Lastly, say yes to Forgiving Yourself.  It’s said frequently, but we can never hear it enough.  The greatest gift you can give yourself is the gift of forgiveness.  Forgive yourself for not being the best child, friend, lover, parent you want to be. The power is yours.  Own your weaknesses yet don’t let them define you. Look in the mirror, accept what you see and decide what’s next.  If you have traits that you don’t like, determine just how significant are they. Do those characteristics affect your life in meaningful ways?  Is yes, then work on improving them.  If the answer is no, learn to accept them and maybe even love them.

Say YES...starting today.
